REBELLION
believe it or not, but i was a hard core skater in wisconsin. the thrill and entertainment from skateboarding was addictive. if you didn't know how to skateboard you were nothing. so, everyday for hours my friends and i would practice. the town of viroqua, wisconsin was full of skateboarders. there were countless places to try out our new tricks. but, there was no better spot then the bigley pool. the bigley pool was "the spot" skaters went. outside the run down pool they had ledges, concrete slabs, staircases, and other unique features that made a skater's eyes get big! but the grand daddy of them all was the actual pool itself. the bigley pool went out of commission years ago, but the drained pool remained. it was illegal of course, but kids like me would sneak in through the barbwire fence. it was so fun, till the cops would come. cops hated kids like me. i wasn't the worst of the group, but i could imagine having a bunch of punks riding around town on skateboards. the thing was though, i wasn't a punk. my friends and i loved skateboarding like a sport. it was our exercise, our entertainment, our past-time, but not our culture. looking back at it i couldn't imagine my parents let me run off as much as i did. i'm glad they let me, because the sport of skateboarding got me away from the tv and the video games. i made countless friends from all age groups because of it. believe me, some of the pictures of me skate boarding are hilarious. i had really long hair and how i dressed was embarrassing. but it was cool at the time....... skateboarding wasn't just a hobby, it was a passion.
